De-Stalinisation Reconsidered

Stalin's death has been viewed as a major caesura in Soviet history. In its aftermath the state had to redefine itself. This volume includes current work by international researchers. Articles engage with questions of continuity and change in the fields of politics, economics, Soviet society and cultural production. In parallel with de-Stalinisation, the urbanisation and modernisation of the Soviet Union are given center stage. The history of the Soviet Union in the 1950s and 60s is not only crucial for interpretations of Glasnots and Perestroika, but also provides insights into Russia today.
